Infrared communication controller IC that supports everything from high-speed infrared IrSimple communication to VFIR

EGFIR® is an LSI for IrDA-supported infrared communication, which is easy to use in embedding systems. There are four types of communication speed with the IrDA standards: SIR (2,400 bps to 115,200 bps); MIR (0.5 Mbps, 1 Mbps); FIR (4.0 Mbps); and VFIR (16.0 Mbps) are available. Functions necessary for IrDA communication and IrSimple high-speed communication, such as buffer memory, DMA, and remote controller function, are provided on a single chip.

  • RAM block
    • Contains a buffer memory consisting of 8,320 Byte x 2 banks.
    • Bank0: For external access: x 8-bit width
    • Bank1: For internal DMA access: x 8-bit width
  • Infrared interface block
    • IrDA send and receive function (IRTX0, IRRX0), consumer remote-control send function (IRTXD1)
  • DMA block
    • DMA-included Bank1 (for internal DMA access) DMA transfer function between the buffer memory and the SIR, FIR, and VFIR blocks
  • Remote-control block
    • Generates burst signals.
  • Timer roll block
    • General-purpose 16-bit timer x 2 CH, Media Busy timer x 1 ch
  • SIR block
    • IrDA 1.0 SIR transfer speed (2.4 - 115.2 kbps)
  • FIR block
    • IrDA 1.1 MIR transfer speed (1.152 Mbps)
    • IIrDA 1.1 FIR transfer speed (4 Mbps)
  • VFIR block
    • IrDA 1.1 VFIR transfer speed (16 Mbps)
